Referred to as "Canada's High Priestess of Marathoning," Sandy McCallum is the only
Canadian woman to win a desert ultra-marathon, arguably the world's toughest endurance
race.
Sandy is an ultramarathon racer and has participated in the Marathon des Sables race in the
Sahara Desert 9 times (a record for a North American). She has also competed in Death Valley
U.S.A, the Gobi Desert in China, and the Atacama Desert in Chile.
Having battled incredible odds—including dehydration, broken bones, and much worse—she is
now one of the top-ranked women ultramarathoners in the world. The majority of her races, run
in unrelenting heat, are 150 miles in length, the equivalent of running 6 marathons back-to-
back. She also carries on her back all the supplies she will need for the week.
Sandy McCallum has raced numerous times across the beautiful—but harsh—terrain of the
Sahara Desert. A passionate storyteller, she believes that everyone is crossing deserts in life.
In her stunning multimedia presentations, she shares with rapt audiences the lessons she has
learned that will help them find their way, and, ultimately, achieve their own goals.
